Business Waste Compliance Rules March 2025
Is your business ready for the new legislation being introduced in 2025? As of March next year all businesses* will be required to separate their waste correctly to ensure that the maximum amount of rubbish can be recycled correctly. This new legislation will require dry recycling, food waste and black bin waste to be kept separate from each other. As a business you will likely have a waste carrier that collects your rubbish and recycling and how they decide to collect your waste will determine how you need to sort your waste.
For dry goods, paper & card must be collected separately from other dry goods (unless your waste carrier collects them together). Dry goods must always be separated from food waste and black bin waste. If you are not already recycling everything you can in the workplace then you have limited time available until you need to get up to speed.
A great way to help employees to recycle correctly is to have plenty of recycling bins on the premises, these can be traditional plastic bins or even hanging waste sacks. Whichever type you choose, be sure to have enough of them so that they are easily seen on the premises and that there is a backup option if any of them are full.
Take a look at our waste management products online, we highly recommend the popular RackSack products which allow you to install waste bags at the end of racking and attach them to trolleys for maximum convenience without taking up valuable floor space.
*Businesses classed as micro firms (less than 10 employees in total) are exempt for the time being but they must comply with the same regulations by 31st of March 2027.
